I'm trying to imagine me in a "managed" community with a Homeowner's Association.
It's difficult. :-)
Let me see... Motorcycles? Yup. Wear a dress? Yup. Not that interested in keeping a lawn shipshape and lovely for the neighbors, but more interested in roses and a flower garden? Yup. Like fences? Yup. Lots of cats? Yup. Loves freedom? Oh yeah. Has an allergic reaction to "authority"? Yup. A condition that is only exacerbated by contact with pedantic pricks? Oh definitely.
Hmm. I'd better not move into such a community. :-)

Well then you would definitely not want to live in California. Out here most neighborhoods are under HOA control.
ReplyDeleteTwo words: "San Francisco" :-D
DeleteOr a nice cottage near Monterey. That's outside the purview of some HOA!
It was on trips to California, especially Orange County, in the 90's where I started to hear the horror stories of "homeowners associations". The DC/Baltimore area has a lot of HOA's as well; we keep running into them. There are some I'd like to run over, but I've heard that's illegal.
In the UK I never came across them; they were more of the "notes from a neighbor" left on the car's windshield thing. That I heard a lot of, especially with the mini-building boom Britain had in the mid-80's.
