The Supremes set out the process for their gay marriage hearings. There's going to be 2 days of argument. I think that works out to 35 minutes from the lawyers and 9½ hours of Justice Scalia ranting.
It seems like such a shame that we have to go through so much, just to allow people who love each other to get married... something that doesn't affect the rest of us in any way. There is one word that truly describes why same-sex couples cannot legally marry... bigotry.
Take solace in the fact that the changes are happening faster now than in previous eras. More people are supporting the right of gays and lesbians to be who they are, and not just in private. More young folk support gay marriage than don't and it's just the old fogeys who no longer do.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court has a lot of cranky old men on it.
