Grover, Grover...

Am I the only one who thinks that a a man who is basically a lobbyist and a shill is not only well known, but is just about a celebrity?

Grover Norquist. He's been hanging around right wing politics since the 1980's. It's only recently, in the last few years, that he's suddenly managed to get the funding to propel himself into the Big Leagues. (I have to say, he's doing quite a fine job of it, too! In a stratospheric political place, where so many crash, he's managing to not just hang on but thrive and prosper!)

The GOP often goes on about "unelected officials". Well, in Grover Norquist, they have someone who's not just unelected - they have someone actively pulling their strings, going as far as dictating national policy. Somehow, he's become the marionette of the Congressional Republicans! Even John Boehner dances to his tune. *All* of the Republicans do - even Peter King, who's in a spat with Norquist about their respective wives (Mr King was a leader in an Islamophobic crusade; Grover's  wife is Muslim). These politicians renouncing the pledge? They'll do what he says, regardless - because he'll report back to his masters (Karl Rove is one of them) and they'll face a primary challenge from someone who claims to be more independent while being more compliant than the guy who challenged Grover.

What a sorry mess the GOP has got itself into.

[Added: My friend Viviane asks if it's wrong to hope that Grover is abducted by aliens. ... I don't think it is? ]

Miserable attempts at insult, self-pity and whiny sniveling isn't. There are other blogs that specialize in, and relish, that sort of pedantry.
