Tomorrow we're going to plant our new forsythia's. They're going at the front, near the street. Not too close: the county comes along and trims the branches and stuff every year!
The garden is starting to look resplendent: lots of leaf buds, the crab-apple and plum trees are blooming, and the cats are enthusiastically chasing anything that moves. Especially the mice...
Eddie was following some turkeys the other day. I told him to catch one for Thanksgiving, but he didn't. A small, but very fluffy, black and white cat with a lopsided mustache, he loves to sit under the bird feeders, just waiting. And hoping. So far, nada.
We're putting more bird feeders out tomorrow; Eddie's going to have a hard time figuring out where to wait! Oh well. He usually goes to sleep, anyway.
Speaking of bird feeders, a red-crested woodpecker dropped by! What a beauty!!! He (I assume?) was magnificent. He pecked at the suet feeder for a minute, and then disappeared back into the woods. One of the delights of where we lived in Brooklyn was hearing the woodpecker in the morning. On a Sunday morning the church bells would peel, and the woodpecker, well, pecked. Rat-tat-tat-tat. Over and over. What a wonderful sound! It was usually quite divine until the bus squealed to a stop at the bottom of the street.
I never thought bird-watching could be this grand. And I'm really looking forward to seeing the forsythia form a hedge over the next few years. A grand and beautiful yellow hedge in the spring, and a delicate green one during the summer. Wonderful!
